Evening Skincare Routine

Skincare has been around for hundreds of years but finding the perfect product is always hard, everyones skin is different but Ive found some products that work really well for me. Below is a skincare routine I use a couple times a week which keeps the majority of my skin clear!

First, to open up your pores and instantly get access to the dirt in your skin, place a flannel/towel that has been soaked in hot water onto your face. Leave this on your skin for around 10 minutes to almost steam your face, ready for a perfect skincare routine. Don't do this every night but it is nice to do a couple times a week at the start of your skincare.

After this, you need to cleanse and remove any dirt that has entered your pores throughout the day - this could include makeup but also just being outside may clog your pores due to the pollution and atmosphere. As your pores are already steamed open, its easy to remove the grime within your skin. Here you can use makeup remover along with a cotton wool pad to wipe it with, this doesn't only remove makeup, its cleans the first layer of dirt on the top of your skin. My favourite makeup remover is the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water (RRP £6) when used with a wool pad, you can visibly see the first that has just been removed from your skin.

Now you need to wash this off as it will feel slightly tacky, use lukewarm water and pat your face dry with a clean towel. Wiping a towel will cause micro-tears in your skin which can lead to early wrinkles.

To remove ALL the dirt, you need to double cleanse, you don't need to do this every night but it will benefit you a lot to do a couple times a week minimum. Splash some warm water onto your skin and grab a cleanser that will go a lot deeper into your pores. My favourite is the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish. This is a creamy cleaner that melts into your skin, removing the much deeper layer of dirt you have. With an RRP of £15.50, it isn't the most affordable product however for me personally it has lasted a long time and feels very luxurious on your skin.

Again wash this off yet with a colder water temperature, this slowly tightens the pores before applying the moisturiser.

A moisturiser is probably the skincare product most used by people as they instantly think it will hydrate their skin, yet without cleansing first the moisturiser is just building up onto of each other  every night which will lead to a massive clog of pores. My favourite is the Aveeno Daily Moisturiser RRP £7, this is light and acts as a barrier for any more dirt getting into the skin overnight. It has active colloidal oatmeal as an ingredient which hydrates the skin and improves the condition noticeably after 2 weeks.

A scrub is also an important step in a skincare routine however I haven't found one yet that I would genuinely recommend. Don't overdo the scrub, its far better to use an active ingredient instead of small abrasive particles that cause small tears in your skin if used too much or too harshly.
