Beauty Blender VS Brush

Many people when applying cream products use brushes, but others use sponges. But which is the best to use for a flawless base and why?

A beauty blender is a sponge that can have a price tag ranging from around 99p from Primark to around £17 for the original one but there is definitely more expensive versions. Although not all sponges are the same, the cheaper ones tends to be much stiffer and tougher and for that reason I prefer to get the Real Technique ones which are in the middle of the price range at £5.99. These work perfectly for me and I would recommend it to anyone interested in using a beauty blender. So a beauty blender is a sponge that evenly distributes your makeup easily across your face, typically you wet it under water and it doubles in size, making it even spongier and nicer to apply with. One issue for some but benefit for others is that the makeup applies so much lighter as the sponge soaks up some product, however if you are looking for a full coverage thick look then maybe a sponge is not the option for you. But for me, I prefer a much more natural coverage which is why I love using a beauty sponge. Some more benefits of a sponge is it’s speed to blend and the lack of streaky brush strokes on your skin due to its material.

A Foundation Brush applies makeup in a much longer time as it has a smaller surface area. However due to it being smaller, it can easily get into the tight areas of your skin such as the inner corner of your eye when blending concealer (to be honest though you can purchase small beauty blenders too that would do this but that is another buy!) It also may leave brush strokes which is annoying as it doesn’t give a natural flawless look to your skin, especially with foundation. Another issue with a makeup brush is that is can only really blend foundation and concealer, you wouldn’t really see it blending cream contour or highlighters - whereas a beauty blender definitely would. My favourite brush is the Number 7 Concealer Brush (pictured above), this is because of its perfect size which gives good coverage and accuracy.

My final thoughts are I would 100% recommended switching to using a beauty blender if you use a brush mainly because of the much more natural finish it leaves your skin with, however I can definitely see benefits to using either.
